The idea for the boat on this piece of land (old baths next to new lifeboat station) came about by one being washed up on the beach. That one was claimed by its owner but we were offered another by West Kirby sailing club.
It was cold and wet when we put the boat in which made us think very hard about which plants would survive. We choose some grasses, valerian, fleabane and thrift.
This boat lasted quite a few years but eventually fell to bits. Hoylake sailing club came to our rescue and offered us another boat. We then had quite a big job moving all the gravel ballast and plants over to the new boat.
We are hoping this new boat will last a long time!
We were offered some slightly imperfect oblong tubs from Amberol, our usual supplier. We could not resist them and we decided, as they were long and narrow, they would need to be next to a wall and came up with the boating lake side of the Parade gardens wall. Although it is a very windy spot the wall gets very warm with the sun and the crazy daisies we chose for the tubs have put on a fantastic show.
